Online Counselling

Private online counselling for adults in the UK
Online counselling offers a flexible way to have therapy from a place where you feel comfortable, without the need to travel.
We meet by video at an agreed time each week, giving you the same regular space to talk, think and make sense of what is happening for you.
For some people, being able to have counselling from home feels easier and more convenient. For others, face-to-face counselling feels more natural. There is no right or wrong choice — it is about finding what works best for you.
How online counselling works
Online sessions are similar to my face-to-face sessions in Witham and Chelmsford.
We meet for a regular 50-minute session each week using an agreed video platform. As with face-to-face counselling, our sessions provide a confidential space where you can talk openly about whatever is troubling you.
It can help to find somewhere private and comfortable where you are unlikely to be interrupted. Using headphones can also give you a little more privacy if other people are nearby.
You do not need any specialist equipment — usually a phone, tablet or computer with a camera, microphone and reliable internet connection is enough.
Is online counselling right for me?
Online counselling can work particularly well if:
-
travelling to regular appointments is difficult
-
you have work or family commitments that make travelling less convenient
-
you live further away from Witham or Chelmsford
-
you feel more comfortable talking from your own space
-
you would simply prefer the flexibility of meeting online
Some people are initially unsure whether talking through a screen will feel natural. It can take a little time to get used to, but many people find that after the first few sessions the technology becomes much less noticeable.
What can I talk about?
You do not need to have a particular diagnosis or a clearly defined problem before starting counselling.
People come to me with many different experiences, including:
-
anxiety and overthinking
-
low mood or low self-esteem
-
relationship difficulties
-
stress and feeling overwhelmed
-
grief and loss
-
difficulties setting boundaries
-
repeating patterns in relationships
-
feeling stuck or unsure about what they want
-
simply feeling that something is not quite right
We can begin with whatever feels most important to you.
A psychodynamic approach
My approach to counselling is psychodynamic.
This means that alongside thinking about what is happening in your life now, we may also become curious about earlier experiences and relationships and how these may have shaped the way you feel about yourself and relate to other people.
Sometimes patterns that developed for good reasons earlier in life can continue long after they are helpful.
Counselling gives us an opportunity to notice these patterns together and gradually develop a deeper understanding of what may be happening.
I will not tell you what you should do or give you a list of solutions. Instead, we will think together about your experiences, feelings and relationships so that you can begin to understand yourself more fully and have greater choice in how you respond.
Privacy when meeting online
Confidentiality is just as important online as it is when we meet face to face.
Before beginning online counselling, we will talk about some practical arrangements, including privacy, what we would do if our internet connection was interrupted, and how we would contact each other if there were a technical problem.
I would also ask you to choose a private space for your sessions where, as far as possible, you feel able to talk without being overheard or interrupted.
Online counselling across the UK
Because we do not need to be in the same physical location, I can offer online counselling to adults across the UK.
If you live locally but sometimes find it difficult to travel, we can also discuss whether online counselling may be a suitable option for you.
Starting with a free introductory chat
If you are wondering whether online counselling might be right for you, you are welcome to begin with a free 15-minute introductory chat.
This gives you an opportunity to tell me a little about what has brought you to counselling, ask any questions and get a sense of whether you would feel comfortable talking with me.
If we decide to continue, we can then arrange a longer consultation before beginning regular counselling sessions.
