About Me

Jonathon

I offer private psychodynamic counselling for adults in person in Witham, Chelmsford and online throughout the UK.

My approach is calm, thoughtful and relational. I aim to offer a confidential space where you can talk openly, at your own pace, and begin to make sense of what feels difficult. You may be coming to counselling because of anxiety, low mood, stress, grief, relationship difficulties, self-doubt, or a feeling that familiar patterns keep repeating.

Psychodynamic counselling is interested in the links between past and present. This does not mean we only talk about the past, but that we can think together about how earlier experiences, relationships and feelings may still be shaping your life now.

How I work

I do not see counselling as advice-giving or quick fixing. Instead, I offer a regular space where we can think together about what is happening for you, including thoughts and feelings that may be hard to put into words. My work is open-ended rather than limited to a fixed number of sessions. This gives us time to think together at a pace that feels right for you. We can continue for as long as the sessions feel useful, with space to review how counselling is feeling and what you are getting from it.

Some people come to counselling with something very specific they want to explore. Others arrive with a more general sense of feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure why things feel difficult. We can begin wherever you are.

My work is informed by psychodynamic thinking, which pays attention to patterns, relationships, emotions, and the meaning behind what may be repeated in your life. Over time, this can help you develop a deeper understanding of yourself and the way you relate to others.

Neurodivergence

I have a particular interest in neurodivergence. I live in a neurodivergent household and have undertaken training in this area, which has given me a personal and professional awareness of some of the challenges neurodivergent people and their families may face. These may include masking, feeling misunderstood, sensory or communication differences, and the pressure of trying to manage in environments that do not always feel accommodating.

I do not offer diagnostic assessments, but I aim to offer a respectful, thoughtful and non-judgemental space where these experiences can be explored.
