Counselling in Chelmsford

Private counselling and therapy for adults in Chelmsford
I offer private counselling and therapy for adults in Chelmsford, providing a confidential space where you can talk openly about whatever is troubling you and begin to make sense of how you are feeling.
You may be experiencing anxiety, low mood, stress, relationship difficulties, grief or low self-esteem. Perhaps you feel overwhelmed or stuck, or have noticed that similar patterns seem to keep repeating in your relationships or other areas of your life.
Sometimes there is a clear reason for seeking counselling. At other times, it can simply feel as though something is not quite right. You do not need to have everything worked out before getting in touch.
A private space in Chelmsford
Face-to-face sessions take place in private counselling rooms in Chelmsford.
I work from counselling spaces within Chelmsford rather than specifying one permanent location, so the exact venue may vary depending on availability. The location for your sessions will always be agreed with you in advance.
Wherever we meet, the aim is to provide a quiet, confidential and consistent space away from the pressures and distractions of everyday life, where you have time to focus on yourself.
How I work
My approach is psychodynamic counselling.
This means that, as well as thinking about what is happening in your life now, we may become curious about how earlier experiences and relationships could be influencing the way you feel, respond to situations or relate to other people today.
Sometimes we find ourselves repeating ways of coping or relating that once made sense but no longer feel helpful. Counselling can provide an opportunity to notice and understand these patterns.
Psychodynamic therapy is not about me telling you what you should do. Instead, we think together about your experiences, thoughts and feelings and what may be happening beneath the surface.
Over time, developing a deeper understanding of yourself can make it possible to respond to situations differently rather than feeling caught in familiar patterns
.
What can counselling help with?
People come to counselling for many different reasons. These can include:
-
Anxiety, worry or panic
-
Stress and feeling overwhelmed
-
Low mood or depression
-
Relationship difficulties
-
Grief, bereavement and loss
-
Low self-esteem or self-doubt
-
Family difficulties
-
Work-related stress or burnout
-
Difficult experiences from the past
-
Feeling stuck or unsure about the future
-
Repeating patterns in relationships
-
Experiences associated with neurodivergence, including masking, overwhelm, feeling different or misunderstood
You do not need to fit neatly into a particular category. Whatever has brought you to counselling, we can begin by thinking together about what feels important to you.
Counselling at your own pace
Sessions last 50 minutes and usually take place weekly.
I offer open-ended counselling, which means you do not have to decide at the outset how many sessions you will need. Some people come to counselling for a relatively short period, while others find that longer-term work gives them the time they need to explore things more deeply.
We can review how the counselling feels as we go and continue for as long as the sessions are useful to you.
Starting counselling in Chelmsford
I offer a free 30-minute initial consultation before counselling begins.
This gives you an opportunity to tell me a little about what has brought you to counselling, ask any questions you may have and get a sense of whether you feel comfortable talking with me.
Finding the right counsellor or therapist is important, and there is no obligation to continue after our initial conversation.
If you are looking for counselling or therapy in Chelmsford, you are welcome to get in touch to arrange an initial consultation.
